Temperature To Top 80 Degrees In Some Areas
UPDATED 03/14/12 11:56 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Technically, it's still winter right now, but shorts and a T-shirt will be apropos on Wednesday as the temperature climbs above 80 degrees in some places.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says temperatures were in the 50s in the early morning hours Wednesday. But as the day goes on, the temperature will be downright hot as a high-pressure ridge and warm air from the south dominate the area.
As of 11:20 a.m., the temperature was already up to 69 degrees at Midway International Airport and 70 at O'Hare.
The forecast high for the day is 79 degrees at O'Hare. That figure will break a record for the day of 77 degrees, set in 1995.
Some areas to the south will likely see highs between 81 and 83 degrees, including Joliet, Kankakee, Peru, and parts of Northwest Indiana, Glaros said.
The warmth will come with breezy conditions, as the south-southwest wind gusts into the 30s.
On Thursday, the temperature will drop near Lake Michigan from the 70s to the 50s as a cold front drops down. But areas away from the lake will continue to see the mid-70s throughout the day, and on Friday.
And in the coming week, there is nary a day without a forecast high in the 70s. For areas away from the lake, the high for Thursday is 76, for Friday 75. The high for Saturday is 76, Sunday 77, Monday 75 and Tuesday 72.
