Temperature To Drop To 50s Near Lake, Stay In 70s Elsewhere
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago city residents might need a light jacket later in the day Thursday, but areas farther west will continue to experience summertime temperatures in what is technically still winter.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says as of 9:40 a.m., it was already 66 degrees at O'Hare International Airport and 65 degrees at Midway. Midday temperatures were expected in the 70s for all Chicago area residents, but in the afternoon, a cold front will swoop down from the north and begin cutting the temperature down near the lake.
As a result, temperatures will drop to the 50s in the immediate Chicago area. Dense fog will also roll in overnight as the atmosphere shifts from the warm and muggy air that predominated in the morning to chillier, still-moist air that has been carried over Lake Michigan.
But farther inland, the high will reach 75 and stay there.
The entire Chicago area will have a 20 percent chance of showers and storms throughout the day.
On Friday, cooler temperatures still reign close to the lake, but elsewhere, the high climbs to 74. By Saturday, the high will rebound for the entire area, topping out at 72.
And in a phenomenon that is pretty much never seen in March, there is still nary a day in the next week with a high under 70. The high for Sunday is 76, Monday 75, Tuesday 78 and Wednesday 70.
