Temperature Cools To 60s As Rain Falls Off-And-On

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The summerlike March heat wave has come to an end after more than a week with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees, but even the lower temperatures are far in excess of what is typical for March.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the skies will be cloudy Friday, with showers off and on across the area. But as of 11 a.m., it was already 61 degrees at O'Hare International Airport and 62 at Midway. That's a far cry from the 80s, but it's still a time of year when the average high is 48.

In fact, the temperature at the buoy site in the middle of Lake Michigan is already up to 47 degrees. That water temperature is typical for early June.

There is a slight chance of severe weather Friday in central and southern Illinois, but only showers are expected for the Chicago area. The forecast high for the day is 67 degrees.

The clouds and rain will clear away on Saturday, as the temperature drops to a comparatively chilly high of 63. The high drops to 62 on Sunday and only 60 on Monday, before rebounding to 68 degrees on Tuesday and 70 again on Wednesday.
