Teens Robbed, 1 Shot Dead, After Being Lured By Auto Parts Ad
UPDATED 08/04/11 1:33 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One teenager from Hammond, Ind., is dead, after he was shot and robbed when he and a friend were lured to a West Pullman neighborhood location where they thought they would be buying auto parts.
The incident unfolded just after 8 a.m. Thursday at 12700 S. Union Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
The two 17-year-old boys had driven to the scene in a moving truck, in response to an advertisement for vehicle parts they were interested in buying, Perez said.
"The victims were contacted and given that location to purchase the parts," Perez said. "They get there and these two guys pop out and announce a robbery."
The victims were robbed of cash and a cell phone, the officer said.
Also, one of the two male suspects was armed and shot one of the teens. After he was shot in the side and critically wounded, that victim got into the suspects' green pickup truck and drove away, Perez said.
Paramedics found that victim with the gunshot at 127th and Wallace Streets at 8:06 a.m., and began working to resuscitate him.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said early Thursday afternoon that the teen shot has died. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the information.
The other victim left the scene in the moving truck they brought.
The suspects fled on foot and police are searching for them, Perez said.
