Teens Charged In Duck Theft From Police Academy
YORKVILLE (STMW)-- Prosecutors have charged two teens in the theft of hundreds of ducks from the Yorkville Citizens Police Academy.
Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said the teens were charged Thursday and should have a court appearance later this month. The teens are not being named because they are charged as juveniles.
According to police, as many as 2,500 small, yellow rubber ducks were taken from the 200 block of West Hydraulic Street in late March.
The ducks were used as the main fundraiser for the Yorkville Citizens Police Academy at Hometown Days. After the theft, the ducks were scattered all over Kendall County, including hundreds found in one pond.
Citizens Police Academy President Lisa Schillinger said it's still not clear how many ducks are missing and more are coming in. Some of the ducks recovered are no longer usable.
Anyone who wants to make a donation to help replace the ducks can contact Yorkville police at 630-553-4340.
