Teenage Boy Charged With Home Burglaries

ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged Tuesday with burglarizing three homes in northwest suburban Elgin.

Thomas Mahoney, 17, of the 3000 block of Settlers Parkway in Elgin, was arrested and charged with two counts of residential burglary and one count of felony theft, according to a release from Elgin police.

Mahoney is believed to be connected to three residential burglaries that occurred between October 28 and December 4, the release said. Electronics, jewelry and coins valued at more than $10,000 were taken from two Elgin homes in the 3000 block of Cranston Avenue and one home in the 10 N500 block of Williamsburg Drive in unincorporated Kane County.

Burglaries in Elgin have increased by 28 percent, the release said.
