Teen Threatened By Classmates Over Facebook Page
GURNEE (STMW) -- A north suburban high school student was threatened by classmates and notified police after being accused of creating a Facebook page that disclosed the alleged drug usage and sex history of several classmates, police said.
Gurnee police were called Monday morning by a 19-year-old woman who said her 16-year-old brother was being threatened by Warren Township High School classmates regarding a Facebook page, according to police Cmdr. Jay Patrick.
The boy told police there is a discussion page that includes posts about various Warren Township students, including alleged drug use, sexual acts and other personal information, according to Patrick.
He said some students at school believe he is the author of the Facebook page and he has been threatened by people who want him to take it down.
"There was implied bodily harm,'' Patrick said.
But the boy told police he has nothing to do with the page. He said he planned to speak with a school dean.
The boy was told how to report the page to Facebook for possible removal. He also wrote down the page information, which was to be turned over to the high school resource officer for further investigation, Patrick said.
No one has been injured or charged in the incident as of Friday morning but Patrick said charges are possible.
"It depends on who exactly posted what," Patrick said. "I'm assuming if various people are posting things and not just one, they'll have to come forward."
