Teen Shot To Death On Southwest Side Front Porch
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 17-year-old Chicago boy was shot and killed Sunday morning while he was on the front porch of a home in the Marquette Park neighborhood.
It happened about 11:25 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Artesian Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The shooter was on foot with a T-shirt wrapped around his face when he approached the male victim of an unidentified age and fatally shot him while he was on a front porch, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to a person shot at 7219 S. Artesian Ave., but did not take the victim to a hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
The victim was identified near the crime scene as Marvis Brown Jr. by his father, Marvis Brown Sr.
The elder Brown told CBS 2's Dana Kozlov that his teen son was a good kid and was not involved in gangs. He speculated the young man was mistaken for someone else.
"I guess where he was at was the wrong place at the wrong time," the father said.
Marvis Brown Jr. was a senior at Julian High School and ready to apply to Southern Illinois University, he said.
The gunman, who has a slim build and was wearing baggy pants during the killing, fled on foot and was not in custody as 12:20 p.m., Mirabelli said.
