Teen Realizes Wish Of Becoming Published Author
PLAINFIELD (CBS) -- A southwest suburban teen battling a life-threatening disease has accomplished her dream of becoming a published author.
Ravina Thakkar says her cystic fibrosis gives her a lot of time to think of stories, as she waits through treatments to clear her lungs three times a day.
The Plainfield 8th grader told the Make-a-Wish Foundation that she wanted to become an author.
That was after learning she couldn't meet her favorite author, J.K. Rowling, because the woman who invented Harry Potter doesn't work with the charity.
Not only did Thakkar achieve her goal, but she sold out all 80 copies of her book, Adventure of a Lifetime, at a book signing at Anderson's book shop in Naperville on Sunday.
She describes the experience as amazing and says she didn't expect so many people there - especially those that she didn't know.
Thakkar says she was initially scared about releasing the book because she wrote it when she was eight and was worried people would think it was a reflection of her writing today.
She says she's grown as a writer since then and hopes to write more in the future.
