Teen Parents Charged In Infant Boy's Death
ZION, Ill. (STMW) -- A 17-year-old Zion man has been charged with the murder and a woman charged with endangering the life of a child for the death of their 5-month-old child.
The two appeared in court Thursday in Waukegan, where bond was set at $2 million for Victor Salinas-Corona and $100,000 for 19-year-old Aurora Escamilla, according to a release from Zion police.
Zion police and fire units were dispatched to the 2600 block of Horeb Avenue in Zion at 3:58 a.m. Thursday in response to a 911 call for a 5-month old boy who was not breathing, police said. When personnel got to the home they found the infant to be in severe distress and took him to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy determined the infant died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, the release said. Following the autopsy, Zion police conducted numerous interviews with family members, including the infant's parents.
As a result, the boy's father, Victor Javier Salinas-Corona, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, the release said.
The child's mother, Aurora Escamilla, has been charged with one count of endangering the life of a child.
Salinas-Corona and Escamilla were both being held at the Lake County Jail.
