One Killed When Car Full Of Teens Crashes Into House
UPDATED: 10/23/2012 - 5:11 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A teenager is dead after a tragic overnight crash in Aurora.
Police say a 15-year-old boy was driving a Chevy Malibu early this morning and three other 15-year-olds were passengers when the car crashed into the garage of a home in the 2700 block of Hamman Way in Aurora's Stonebridge subdivision.
The accident happened shortly before 2 a.m. None of the teens in the car had a driver's license.
The car first hit a tree and then careened across the street, up a small hill, and hit another tree before slamming into garage.
The four teens in the car were all students at Metea Valley High school.
Devin Meadows, who played wide receiver for the Metea Valley football team and was on the track team, was thrown from the car and killed. The driver and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
Aurora police said Meadows was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
Meadows' friend Moshin Ahmad said, "this is shaking … a piece of your heart's going away."
Seeing the crash site in person was about the only way Ahmad could accept it was real.
As of early Tuesday afternoon, no charges or traffic citations had been filed against the boy who had been driving. Police were waiting for the results of toxicology tests, although they said there was no evidence drugs or alcohol were involved. Police said charges likely would not be filed until the end of the week.
No one in the house was injured.
Homeowner Joshila Chandra and her family were fast asleep, when something slammed into their Aurora home.
The house shook, and a few moments later someone was frantically ringing the door bell.
"We didn't go out," said Chandra, 37, a mother of two. "We were scared."
Chandra said her children, ages 10 and 7, were shaken up but not hurt.
"We couldn't sleep the whole night," she said. "We are shaken."
"It's just so sad for their family."
