Teen Girl Critically Wounded In Shooting At Far South Side Park
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old girl sitting in a Far South Side park Monday afternoon was critically wounded when shots rang out, possibly from a passing car, police said.
The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 11200 block of South Ada Street, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
Ada Park, a 15-acre park, is at that location, according to a Chicago Park District directory.
The girl was sitting in the park when a car drove by and shots rang out, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. She suffered gunshots to the body in the shooting. It was not yet known if the gunfire that wounded the girl came from that passing car.
Paramedics took the victim, who was in serious to critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face, to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado.
The scene of the shooting is on the western edge of Ada Park, about a half-mile northeast of where a 6-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting at his home on the 1700 block of West Steuben Street on Sunday.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
