Teen Dead, Two Injured In Crash Caused By Speeding, Aggressive Driving
JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (STMW) - A teen boy from LaPorte, Ind. was killed, while two others were injured in a crash early Thursday in southern Indiana which police say may have been caused by speeding and aggressive driving.
About 12:35 a.m., a 1996 Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old La Porte, Ind. man was driving south on I-65 near the 51.5 mile marker when he lost control of the vehicle, which then rotated, striking a guardrail in the median, a release from Indiana State Police said.
The force of the crash caused five of the guardrail posts to be broken off before the vehicle came to a rest with the passenger side of the vehicle against the guardrail, the release said.
The driver suffered severe head and chest injuries and a back seat passenger, a 19-year-old La Porte man, also suffered severe head and chest injuries, the release said.
Both the driver and the back seat passenger were taken to area hospitals.
The front-seat passenger, 19-year-old Craig M. Milcarek, also of La Porte, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although the crash remains under investigation, State Police say speed and aggressive driving may have contributed to the crash.
