Four In Custody After Shooting, Police Chase

CHICAGO (STMW) - Four people were in custody following an early morning Saturday shooting on the West Side which led to a police chase that ended in a collision on Lake Shore Drive.
A 17-year-old boy was critically wounded, hit in the chest and lower right leg, in the Garfield Park shooting. The shots were fired from a black Chrysler Town and Country van, said Harrison District Police Lt. John Andrews.
The shooting occurred at 12:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Homan Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Police put out an alert and less than 30 minutes later, the Town and Country was spotted by police near Briar and Inner Lake Shore Drive near the Lakeview neighborhood, Andrews said.
Police attempted to the pull the minivan over but the driver sped away, leading to a short police chase on Lake Shore Drive. The chase ended at 12:52 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the 2300 block of North Lake Shore Drive when the minivan collided with two police cars, Andrews said.
The driver of the minivan was injured and receiving medical treatment, Andrews said. The officers had minor injuries, he said.
Friends of the boy who was shot took him to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
The boy was in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the chest and a gunshot wound to the ankle. Andrews said he was expected to live.
The four arrested were charged with aggravated battery with a handgun.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
