Teen Charged In Fatal Drive-By Last August
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in a drive-by shooting in the Grand Crossing neighborhood last summer.
Bodey Cook, of 750 N. Dearborn St., was charged with murder in the Aug. 19, 2010, shooting death of Roger Kizer at 7450 S. Kenwood Av., police said. Cook also has been charged with attempted murder for shooting Estavion Thompson, 25, in the same incident.
In the August murder, which occurred about 11:30 p.m. at 7450 S. Kenwood Ave., the victims were standing outside when a blue car that was moving slowly southbound on Kenwood drove past them and someone inside opened fire, striking them, according to a Grand Crossing District police lieutenant.
The shooter did not get out of the car, which fled the scene.
Kizer, 31, of 7444 S. Kenwood Ave., was dead at the scene, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman. An autopsy Aug. 20 determined Kizer died of a gunshot wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
Thompson, 25, was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for three gunshot wounds, according to the police. A police News Affairs release said the man wounded suffered a graze wound to the chest and was shot in his legs.
Thompson told police he did not see or hear anything during the attack but people who were on the scene told investigators about the blue car, the lieutenant said. No shell casings were found on the scene.
The shooting of Kizer and Thompson was gang-related, the lieutenant said.
Additionally, Cook was charged with criminal damage to property and aggravated assault for allegedly shooting at a vehicle on Jan. 14 at 103rd and King Drive.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
