Teen Busted Going Nearly 100 MPH In Marengo

MARENGO, Ill. (CBS) -- A teenager's life in the fast lane didn't last long in far northwest suburban Marengo.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, McHenry County Sheriff's police say early Wednesday morning near Marengo, a deputy clocked a car zipping along Route 176 at 95 mph – 40 mph over the speed limit.

The driver was 17 years old, and he had five others in the car with him. All of the passengers were under 18, which is against the law for a new driver, according to a news release.

The teen was ticketed for speeding, having an uninsured car, driving when he was not supposed to be on the road with a graduated license, and driving with too many people under 20 years old with a graduated license, the release said.
