Teen Boy Charged For South Side Armed Robberies

CHICAGO (STMW) - A teenage boy suspected of being part of a group that committee a string of armed robberies on the South Side was arrested and charged Tuesday.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with four counts of armed robbery, according to a release from police News Affairs.

The boy was arrested Tuesday morning and positively identified in connection with a May 15 armed robbery in the 9400 block of South Oakley Avenue, the release said.

The teenage victims were robbed of a cellular phone, electronic music player and other valuables when the boy and other male accomplices approached and demanded valuables at gunpoint, the release said.

The armed robbery was part of a similar pattern that started in early May and targeted victims for their cell phones, electronics and other valuables as they walked in the late evening hours, according to the release.

Kingston Madison, 18, of the 7900 block of South Albany Avenue, was arrested last Friday for his role in a similar attack that occurred May 18 in the 10000 block of South Leavitt Avenue, the release said. He was charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm.

Madison is being held at the Cook County Jail on $175,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's website. He is next scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Calumet Area detectives are conducting an on-going investigation searching for a least one other person involved in the attacks.
