Techs Needed For Eyeglass Clinic This Weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A volunteer medical group has the equipment to make eyeglasses, but needs technicians for its care-for-all clinic underway now at Malcolm X College.

As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, Stan Brock founded remote area medical to assist native peoples of the Amazon rainforest, but found the medically underserved were as common in the U.S. as anywhere else.

So Brock brought Remote Area Medical back to America, and is expecting well over 1,000 people to come to his clinic this weekend at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Van Buren St.

Those who need them will leave with glasses, if Brock can find the techs.

"We have mobile eyeglass lab units here, but we don't have anybody from the local area that's experienced in making eyeglasses," Brock said.

Brock says there is no paperwork, and any eye glass tech willing and interested to help this weekend can just show up at Malcolm X and get to work.
