Teacher's Union Has Good Words For Interim Schools CEO
CHICAGO (WBBM) - Mayor Richard M. Daley has chosen Chicago Community Trust President Terry Mazany to be interim CEO of the Chicago Public Schools until the next mayor takes over.

Mazany was a school administrator in California and Michigan before coming to Chicago. The city will pay Mazany a salary of $1, while he continues to draw his pay from the Chicago Community Trust.
The Chicago Teachers Union said it welcomes Mazany, even though he does not want the job permanently.
Union staff coordinator Jackson Potter said Mazany "has really shown a commitment to the Chicago Public Schools in a number of ways."
As director and senior program officer for the Community Trust's Education Initiative, he led a $50 million, five-year effort to improve Chicago schools.
Daley said that Mazany brings managerial skills as well as a background in education, and Potter said he is pleased to see someone with an education background in the job for the first time since Mayor Daley took control of the system in 1995.
Potter said the union hopes that Mazany can influence the choice of a permanent successor who shares that background and understanding.
The union wants a voice in the selection of the new CEO and is reiterating its call for a blue-ribbon panel to help the new mayor choose a permanent success to Ron Huberman, who said he did not wish to serve under another mayor and resigned effective at the end of the month.
