Teacher Charged With Having Sex With Student
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A teacher at Chicago Vocational Career Academy High School has been charged with having sex with a student.
A criminal court judge effectively removed 39-year-old Bridgette Miller from the classroom, by barring her from any contact with the student, witnesses, or anyone else under the age of 18.
She has been charged with criminal sexual assault.
Cook County State's attorney's office spokesman Steve Campbell said the 17-year-old was a student in one of Miller's classes at CVCA, located at 2100 E. 87th St.
Campbell said Miller allegedly obtained the student's cell phone number from another student, engaged in text messaging that became increasingly racy, and eventually had sex with him at least twice -- once in Miller's classroom and the other time in her car behind a Walgreen's Drug Store in the Avalon Park neighborhood.
Text messages found on the student's phone allegedly confirmed the sexual contact, Campbell said.
Miller's bond has been set at $150,000. She's due back in court on Aug. 29.
The Chicago Public Schools declined comment, except to say that Miller resigned from her job June 1.
