Sue Hales of the Chicago IRS office says each year, more taxpayers are going paperless. She says the number of returns being filed electronically is running about 10 percent higher this year than last.
"There will always be some people that prefer to file a paper return, and we are trying to encourage as many people as possible to e-file, and for those have e-filed in the past, they are pretty much doing it again. I mean, they continue to file year-in and year-out," Hales said.
Due to a holiday in Washington, D.C., on April 15, you will get an extra weekend to file, until Monday, April 18.
If you can't complete you return in time, you must file Form 4868 by April 18, requesting a six-month extension. But you still have to estimate your taxes and pay up whatever you might owe.
