Target Closing Two Chicago Area Stores

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Target stores in Calumet City and McHenry will be shut down by February, as part of the company's plan to close 11 stores nationwide.

"The decision to close a Target store is only made after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location," Target said in a written statement Wednesday.

The other nine stores that will close are in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Georgia, Kansas, and Texas. Michigan is losing three stores.

Employees at each store will be given the option of transferring to other Target locations. Those who choose not to transfer will be offered a severance deal.

All 11 stores will be closed on Feb. 1, 2015.

"Target guests in the affected markets can continue to expect the same great variety and service at other Target locations and also visit Target.com for their shopping needs," the company said.
