Target Breaks Ground For Store In Heart Of Old Cabrini-Green
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Target has broken ground for a new store in the heart of what used to be Cabrini-Green--and promising 200 new jobs after the store opens a year from now.
"There's going to be a lot of development in this neighborhood and a lot of opportunity in this neighborhood," said 27th Ward Ald. Walter Burnett, whose family lived at Cabrini-Green.
Burnett was one of the shovelers at the ground-breaking at Division and Larrabee.

"We just need to make sure that people are ready and prepared to get those jobs," he said.
There are 200 jobs in all, 75 of them will go to CHA residents, Burnett says.
Pamela Purdis thought she'd get to fill out an application at the groundbreaking.
"Yes, that's what I came for," Purdis said. "Yep, that's what someone told me."
Not everybody in the neighborhood is happy to see Target come in to what was Cabrini. Like 59-year-old Michael McClarin.
"I'm hurt," he said. "Because I lived here and I thought I was coming back to live here. I'm hurt. Now I'm going to be living in aisle 7."
Ald. Burnett says, "You can't satisfy everyone."
