Talking The Issues With The Top Candidates For Mayor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With the race for mayor winding down, undecided voters are running out of time to make their choice for who should be the next person to lead the city of Chicago after Mayor Richard M. Daley retires in May.
CBS 2 News invited the top four contenders for mayor to sit down to answer some questions on important issues facing the voters in the race for mayor.
On Tuesday, City Clerk Miguel del Valle sat down with CBS 2 anchors Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson to discuss the latest poll numbers, his standing as the self-declared "poorest candidate" in the race and a number of other issues.
Former U.S. Senator and ambassador Carol Moseley Braun was next up on Wednesday, tackling issues such as the state of her campaign finances, a new controversy involving rivals Gery Chico and Rahm Emanuel, and whether she would privatize city assets like Midway International Airport.
Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel declined an invitation to sit down for an interview in the CBS studios, but did agree to a one-on-one interview with CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine. On Thursday, they talked about privatization of city assets, investing in mass transit and other infrastructure and reforming city government.
On Friday, former Chicago Board of Education President Gery Chico rounded out the series of interviews by sitting down to talk about the city's budget deficit, possible privatization of garbage collection, whether the city should consolidate its 50 wards and other issues.
