Swopshire Latest Wildcat Lost For Season
(CBS) Jared Swopshire's collegiate career came to a premature end Tuesday when the Northwestern senior guard had to have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
Swopshire injured the knee Saturday in a 71-57 loss at Iowa and a subsequent MRI led to the surgery.
"We all feel badly for Jared that he won't be able to play out the remainder of his final collegiate season," Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody said. "He has been a terrific addition to the program, both on and off the court. He was enjoying a very productive year and was playing his most consistent basketball of the season when the injury occurred. There is every indication that he'll experience a full recovery."
Swopshire transferred to Northwestern in the offseason after spending four years at Louisville. At the time of the injury, he was the Wildcats' leading rebounder while also averaging 9.7 points per game.
The injury is another major blow for Northwestern, which has had plenty this season. First, guard JerShon Cobb was suspended before the season started, and then leading scorer Drew Crawford was lost for the year with a shoulder injury.
The Wildcats are currently 13-11 (4-7 Big Ten).
