Swimmer Goes Missing In Northwest Indiana
(CBS) – A Blue Island man who was out boating with friends went missing Thursday, prompting rescue agencies to search Lake Michigan.
Michael Janko, 50, and his friends jumped into the water for a swim near Whihala Beach in Whiting, Ind. Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The man was reportedly not wearing a life jacket. An emergency call drew the Coast Guard and assisting agencies, including the Lake County, Ind., Sheriff's Department, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Hammond Fire Department.
The search ended Thursday night and was expected to resume Friday morning.
