SW Side TCF branch, Waukegan Credit Union Robbed
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Robbers struck a bank branch on the city's Southwest Side and a credit union in Waukegan on Wednesday.
About 9:50 a.m., a man armed with a handgun robbed a bank branch inside a Southwest Side Jewel store.
The robbery took place in the TCF Bank branch in the Jewel at 6107 S. Archer Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The robber, described as a white man between 20 and 25 with green eyes and overgrown shaggy facial hair, was armed with a black handgun and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt under a black jacket, according to police and surveillance camera photos.
He got away with an undetermined amount of money and no one was injured.
In another robbery Wednesday, a man robbed the Consumers Credit Union at 2750 Washington St. in Waukegan, according to the FBI.
This robber was a white man, in his late 40s to early 50s, about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8, with a slender build, and wearing a black jacket, black knit cap, and black square-rimmed glasses. He did not show a weapon in this robbery, according to the FBI.

There have been at least 36 bank robberies this year in the Chicago area, according to statistics from the FBI. In 2012 there were 218.
