Suspicious Package Shuts Down Metra Electric Line In Hyde Park
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A suspicious package halted the busy Metra Electric Line in the Hyde Park neighborhood late Friday morning.
Police said Metra notified them after the item was found on a platform on Lake Park Avenue between Hyde Park Boulevard (51st Street) and 53rd Street.
Fire Department personnel are on the scene as of 12:05 p.m. after the "suspicious device'' was found, said Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. No injuries were reported as of 12:30 p.m.
No other details about the suspicious package have been released.
Two outbound trains and one inbound train are affected, according to Metra's website.
Train No. 219, scheduled to arrive 55th/56th/57th Street station at 11:27 a.m. and Blue Island at 12:02 p.m., got stuck at 47th Street. Inbound train No. 120, scheduled to arrive 55th/56th/57th Street at 11:42 a.m. and Chicago at 11:57 a.m., got stuck at 67th Street. And outbound train No. 319, scheduled to arrive 51st/53rd/57th Street at 11:36 a.m. and 93rd-South Chicago at 11:57 a.m., also got stuck at 47th.
With no CTA 'L' train to serve the area, the Metra Electric Line is one of the main public transit routes between Hyde Park and downtown.
