UPDATED 04/25/12 12:32 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Workers poured out of the Daley Center courthouse and office building Wednesday when a suspicious package was found nearby outside the County Building.
The package was found just after 11 a.m., authorities said.
Fire Media Affairs told the Sun-Times Media Wire the package was found in the lap of a relief statue on the outside wall of the County Building – the eastern side of the City Hall complex at 118 N. Clark St.
The crowd that had flooded out of the Daley Center amounted to several hundred people.
Yellow tape was been strung around the entire Daley Center building, which houses the civil courtrooms for the Cook County Circuit court system and offices for judges and other county officials. The police tape was also wrapped around about two thirds of Daley Plaza.
Yellow tape has also cordoned off the front of the County Building.
Police closed Randolph Street at Dearborn Street. Clark Street was also closed between Lake and Washington streets.
By 12:30 p.m., people were still in the lobby of the Dearborn Street side of the Daley Center, but the Clark Street side was closed.
