Suspicious Package Outside Kane County Court Turns Out To Be DVD, Video Game
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (CBS) -- A suspicious package prompted authorities to shut down the parking lot at the Kane County Judicial Center Wednesday morning, but it turned out to be only a DVD, a video game and a calculator.
Around 8:10 a.m., a Kane County sheriff's deputy at the courthouse found a small box lying on a landscape berm on the northwest side of the parking lot. Officers could not see inside the box, and confirmed that it had not been there when the courthouse closed Tuesday.
Thus, the sheriff's office shut down the west parking lots for the building, and the Kane County Bomb Squad was called out to open the package.
It turned out that the package only contained safe and mundane items – a workout DVD, a Sony PlayStation video game, and a calculator.
By 9:45 a.m., the parking lot was back open.
Court remained in session throughout the investigation.
