Suspects Fleeing Wal-Mart At 100 MPH
OTTAWA (CBS) -- Ottawa Police received a call around 5 a.m.about two people who were in the process of committing retail theft at the local Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart employees were alerted before the incident about a description of two people who wear Wal-Mart uniforms and attempt to commit retail theft at other Wal-Marts. The two suspects fled the store without any items before police were able to arrive.
A Ottawa police officer that responded discovered the vehicle had a registration violation.
When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the vehicle fled onto eastbound I-80 driving 100 mph or more in the dark with no lights on.
An officer from Marseilles, the next town over, was able to get in front of the vehicle and use stop sticks to force the vehicle to stop. 36 year-old Demetrius E. Bracey of Chicago and 22-year-old Felicia R. Sykes of Worth were arrested.
At this point, the two have not been charged with anything in relation to the theft until an investigation is complete. Detectives are in the process of talking to the suspects.
Right now, Bracey has been charged with several traffic violations including aggravated fleeing to elude police, speeding over 40 mph, and driving without lights. Sykes was arrested on a previous retail theft warrant out of DuPage County.
