Suspected Gunman In Custody From Store Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) - A suspected gunman is in police custody following a shooting at a store in the Englewood neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened about 2:17 p.m. at a store on the 5900 block of South Morgan Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. A store called the 59th Street Food Mart is listed at 5900 S. Morgan St.

A 28-year-old man entered the store and opened fire on a 30-year-old man, according to a report from police News Affairs. Police officers in the area responded to the scene and discovered the gunman still in the area. After a brief footchase a suspected offender was taken into custody.

The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said.

The suspected shooter was in police custody Saturday evening. The investigation by Wentworth Area detectives continues and no charges had been announced as of about 7:30 p.m.
