Suspect Opens Fire On Officers Responding To Fatal Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man allegedly opened fire on police Wednesday night on King Drive on the city's South Side, after officers watched him shoot another man who later died.
Officers returned fire and hit the suspect in the leg, police said.
Grand Crossing District officers were patrolling the 6300 block of South King Drive around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when they saw the suspect shoot another man, police said.
When officers came to the scene, the man began firing at them, police said. After police returned fire, he fled.
Meanwhile, officers found the gunman's victim with a gunshot wound to the back.
That man--identified as Tony Dunn, 19, who lived on the same block--was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. He was pronounced dead there at 12:32 a.m., authorities said.
Police found the suspected gunman during a search of the area, He was arrested and taken to an area hospital for treatment, and charges were pending early Thursday, police said.
