Suspect Escapes After Cops Fire Shots During Traffic Stop
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An armed robbery suspect escaped after Police officers fired shots at him on Monday when he pointed a gun at a police officer in the West Lawndale neighborhood.
At about 4:15 a.m. Monday, police officers pulled over a car wanted in an armed robbery when they spotted it near the intersection of Polk Street and Cicero Avenue, police said.
When officers approached, the driver pointed at one of the officers and, fearing for his life, the officer fired at the suspect, police said.
The offender, however, was able to get away in his vehicle, heading south on Cicero Avenue. Officers provided a description via radio and police found the abandoned vehicle in the 2100 block of South Mallard, Mirabelli said.
No one was injured in the incident, police said, and the suspect remained at large Monday morning.
Grand Central Area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority – which investigates all police-involved shootings – are investigating.
