Police Searching For Suspect In Woodridge Armed Robberies
WOODRIDGE, Ill. (CBS/STMW) -- Police are searching for a suspect they believe is responsible for three armed robberies in Woodridge in the past five days.
Woodridge police set up a perimeter in and around an apartment complex in the 7900 block of Janes Avenue around 3:40 p.m. Monday after receiving a call about a robbery in progress
CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports Woodridge police searched the complex on foot and used a police dog to try to track the suspect.
It is the same apartment complex where yesterday two people were robbed at gunpoint while sitting in a car. In that incident, the robber approached the car around 6:15 p.m. He was holding a black handgun & robbed them of a cell phone, a debit card, a GPS unit and a Starbucks gift card. The suspect then ran off.
It is not clear if this is the same suspect believed to have committed two other armed robberies in the village in the last five days.
The same suspect is believed to be responsible for an armed robbery in a Jewel parking lot about half a mile away on April 24, police said.
A woman had just finished loading groceries into her vehicle about 1 p.m. outside the Jewel at 2317 W. 75th St. when a man with a large butcher knife got into the passenger seat, according to police.
The woman's children — an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old — were in the car when the man took her cell phone and money, police said.
He then told her to drive to her bank, but got out of the car near Boughton and Naperville roads, according to police.
The suspect Monday is described as a male Hispanic in his late teens or early 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a medium build. The suspect in the first two robberies was also described as being in his late teens or early 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and 140 pounds with black, spiked hair. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, dark blue jeans, and a scarf over his face.
Police do not have a suspect in custody and have boosted patrols in the area.
