Survey: Most Cell Phone Users Prefer Talking Over Text

CHICAGO (WBBM) - A recent survey says most cell phone users like to hear from people on the phone versus a text message.

Texting can have it's advantages. It's brief, fast and your message can be read now or later. But the Pew Research Center found that, given the choice, most U.S. cell phone users prefer a call instead of a text. 53% of texters prefer voice. 31% prefer text. 14% said it depends on the situation.

The survey found cell phone owners send or receive an average 41 messages on a typical day. Young adults do the most texting with ages 18 to 24 exchanging an average 109 messages a day and more than 3,200 texts per month.
