Supt. McCarthy, Jackson Sr. Take Part In Gun Debate
Chicago (CBS) -- Reverend Jesse Jackson, Senior and Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy took part in a spirited debate over gun violence this morning on the city's South Side.
With a table of assault rifles as examples nearby, Chicago's Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy laid out how he thinks gun violence can be reduced.
"We could start by banning assault weapons and expanded magazines," said McCarthy.
The round table discussion at the Rainbow Push Coalition Headquarters led by Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. included McCarthy, gun control advocates and religious leaders.

"There was something about Newtown that touched all of us in a different place that serves to illuminate the darkness in Chicago which we have been trying to get attention for a long time," said Jackson.
The audience also heard from the wife of Daryl Minor, the youth basketball coach shot to death in a parking lot in south suburban Calumet Park earlier this week.
