Sunny, But Chilly, For The Day, Rest Of The Work Week

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A high-pressure ridge is keeping the skies clear and sunny, but temperatures will remain nippy throughout the day and the rest of the work week.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says the sun has had a greater warming effect than initially expected, and as of 11:20 a.m., the temperature at O'Hare International Airport had already reached the forecast high of 54 degrees. But temperatures were considerably cooler by the lake, and will remain so.

Conditions will remain breezy, with northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, for the afternoon.

On Wednesday night, the low drops to 39 degrees with mostly clear skies. But away from the Chicago area, parts of north central Illinois could see a frost as the temperature drops below 32 degrees – a big problem given that everything bloomed and sprouted six weeks ahead of time.

But the sustained winds will be enough to keep conditions in Chicago slightly milder, Glaros said.

The high for the Cubs home opener Thursday is only 50 degrees, with a crisp feel. On Saturday, the high climbs to 63 and on Easter Sunday 66, but on Monday, the high drops back to 56 and sinks to 48 on Tuesday.
