Sunny, But Chilly And Breezy, For Rest Of The Day
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Temperatures will be top out around 5 degrees below average Monday, on a cool and breezy, but sunny, day.
But it could certainly be worse. From Buffalo, N.Y., through western Pennsylvania and south all the way to central West Virginia, a late-season snowstorm is creating a scene more befitting of February. CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says the snowstorm could dump up to 8 inches of snow on Buffalo.
Heavy rain is also falling farther east toward the Atlantic coastline, including much of New Hampshire and Maine.
The storms are all part of a late-season nor'easter that is hitting the Eastern Seaboard.
In Chicago, there is no rain or snow in the forecast for Monday. In fact, conditions are dry enough that a red flag warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The red flag warning has been issued due to an increased risk of fires due to winds reaching the gusty range, low humidity, and sunny conditions. It is especially important to refrain from lighting matches and dropping them, or dropping smoldering cigarettes butts out your car window.
As of 11 a.m., it was 54 degrees at Midway International Airport and 56 at O'Hare. The high for the day is only 57, with northwest winds at 10-20 mph.
The high on Tuesday will climb to 63, and on Wednesday to 62 with a chance of rain. But on Thursday, the high sinks to 53, and remains in the 50s through the weekend – 54 on Friday, 55 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.
Glaros says this is the second time in recorded history that April has been cooler on average than March.
