Suit: Homewood Cops Injured 82-Year-Old Woman
(STMW) -- Three Homewood residents filed a federal lawsuit Friday, claiming two police officers allegedly barged in to their home and injured an 82-year-old woman.
Ruth Christensen, David Christensen and Suzanne Byron filed the suit in U.S. District Court against two police officers and the village of Homewood.
The suit claims that on Aug. 2, 2013, the officers came to the home and entered "without legal basis."
Then, as officers approached David Christensen inside the home, they pushed over Ruth Christensen, who was 82 years old at the time, according to the suit. She hit a wall and started "bleeding intensely," eventually needing 11 staples to close the wound on he scalp, the suit said.
David was later arrested, the suit said.
The Village of Homewood or a spokesperson for the town's police department could not immediately be reached for comment.
The four-count suit claims unlawful search and seizure, excessive force, false arrest of David Christensen and indemnification.
The plaintiffs seek an undisclosed amount in damages.
