Suit: Child Shocked By Loose Wires Near Blue Line
CHICAGO (STMW) - A lawsuit was filed Wednesday by a mother claiming her daughter was shocked by loose wires while walking home from school on a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Eisenhower Expressway and the Blue Line.
Sherrica Stutts claims her daughter was walking south on Lavergne Avenue Jan. 25 while returning home from May Elementary Community Academy at 512 S. Lavergne Ave., according to a lawsuit filed in Cook County Court.
Stutts' daughter was crossing a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) and the Blue Line when her legs brushed against loose wires sticking out of the LB-conduit unit at the bottom of a chain link fence that ran along both sides of the bridge, the suit said.
The suit said Stutts' daughter suffered electric shock and was seriously injured.
The three-count suit names Commonwealth Edison, CTA, and the city of Chicago. The suit seeks more than $150,000 in damages, attorney fees and court costs.
Wanda Taylor, CTA spokeswoman, said she was unable to comment because she hadn't seen the lawsuit. Spokespeople for the city's legal department and Commonwealth Edison was not available for comment Wednesday evening.
