Suburban Parents Stock Up On School Supplies
GLENVIEW, Ill. (CBS) -- The opening of school is anywhere from a day to a week and half a way for most suburban children, many are out with their parents buying supplies.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Roberts reports from Glenview, some say the prices have been on the rise. But one mother, Judy, was lured in by the promise of one-cent notebooks for her children, ages 14, 11 and 9, when she stopped at the Staples store on Waukegan Road.

"I'm here to shop for the deals – the things that are on sale – so that's what I'm stocking up on," she said.
That means if an item has a good sale price, she's buying it.
"And I stock up, and then during the year, I just kind of pull it out of my supply closet, so that I don't have to make another trip during the year and buy it at a higher price," Judy said.
Thinking ahead is vital, she said.
"I try – with three kids, you have to, because it really adds up," she said.
But not everyone agrees with that approach. The next woman to enter the store said she does not like having to buy in bundles, because what the kids don't use now will probably be shoved onto a shelf and forgotten.
