Suburban Man Gets 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Abuse
CHICAGO (STMW) - A Bolingbrook man accused of sexually abusing the daughters of a woman he dated was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday.
Ronald Smajda, 58, must also spend his life as a registered sex offender, Will County State's Attorney spokesman Chuck Pelkie said. Smajda pleaded guilty in May to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and Judge Edward Burmila sentenced him to five years for each count.
Prosecutors say Smajda abused his older victim from 1995 until 2000, and the younger victim from 1998 until 2004. The girls turned 7 and 8, respectively, the years their abuse began.
The younger victim eventually reported the abuse to police after Smajda and her mother broke up, Pelkie said. He was charged with the crimes in 2007.
