Suburban Bus Driver Calls It A Day After Nearly 40 Years
Bus Driver Retires After Nearly 40 Years
(CBS) -- A suburban woman is calling it a career after driving a school bus for nearly 40 years.
"My alarm will not be set for 4:15 (a.m.) -- ever again," Peggy Figgins says.
She began driving special-needs children back in 1976 in Oswego School District 308. Over nearly four decades, she's watched the district explode in size.
She used to drive up to 120 miles a day to take children out of the district for special-needs services, but now Oswego provides those services.
Still, her route takes her just as long.
"Tons more traffic. It still takes as much time because of the traffic that we do experience today," Figgins says.
At 66, Figgins is now looking forward to a new chapter in her life.
"I love my job. I truly love my job, but I just feel that it's time for me now to go and enjoy other things in life and leave this up to some younger people," she says.
