Student Attacks Teacher In Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ind. (CBS) -- A 14-year-old middle school student is accused of attacking a teacher in Valparaiso, Ind., two times this month.
The latest incident happened during class Wednesday morning at Ben Franklin Middle School, when the student allegedly got angry with teacher Nicholas Henrichs, for telling him he couldn't use the restroom, according to police.
The student allegedly cursed at Henrichs, 25, who told him to sit down and that he would be getting a detention, police said.
The student responded by walking up to Henrichs' desk and ripping the detention paper out of his hand. Police reported Henrichs put his hands on the student's shoulders to keep him away as an aide got the other students out of the room.
However, the student allegedly attacked him and they fell to the floor, with the student on top. The aide told police the student repeatedly punched the teacher's arms, which he held up to protect his face, and kicked him several times in the side and leg.
When Henrichs got away, the student shut himself into an adjacent room until police arrived at the school at 605 Campbell St. in Valparaiso, Ind.
The student, who faces undisclosed disciplinary actions from the school, was released to his parents.
Police intend to pursue the matter with the Juvenile Probation Department, and the responding officer told the student's parents that he likely will be taken into custody at a later time to face a felony battery charge, according to the police report.
