String Of Sexual Assaults Continues On West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police may have a serial rapist on their hands on the West Side.

The latest sexual assault was early Saturday morning on West Gladys Avenue.  In July, there were two assaults on the 2700 block of West Jackson Boulevard and, earlier this month, one in the 2700 block of West Adams Street.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

"I can't sleep, and I'm sure other parents around here can't sleep," said a mother, whose two daughters were sexually assaulted on different dates by the unknown man.  "It's sad. There are no words."

The family now has enlisted a guard dog in case the suspect returns.

Police said the attacks all took place between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.  They say the offender may wear a mask over his head and gloves on his hands.  The offender is described as between the ages of 16 and 20 and between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He weighs about 145 pounds.

"He violated their womanhood. He took away their power," the mother said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Chicago Police Area North Detectives at 312-744-8261.
