Streamwood House Fire Might Have Been Caused By Holiday Lights
STREAMWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- An overnight fire that caused about $75,000 in damage to a northwest suburban home may have been caused by outdoor holiday lights, fire officials said Thursday morning.
Residents of the home in the 300 block of Laurel Lane discovered smoke in the house, got out and called 911 about 12:45 a.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Streamwood Fire Department.
When firefighters got to the home they found a large fire in the front of the building. They quickly extinguished the blaze and extension into the home was minimal. Fire damaged the front exterior of the house and the roof.
According to the fire department, the fire appeared to have originated on the exterior of the home, and may have involved holiday lights. The investigation into the exact cause is ongoing. Damage was estimated at $75,000.
