CHICAGO (CBS) — A cold front has stretched across the region, allowing for a storm threat through Tuesday morning.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued earlier for much of the Chicago area—though not the city of Chicago or Cook County. Within the CBS Chicago viewing area, Kane, Will, McHenry, Kendall, Kankakee, DeKalb, Grundy, LaSalle counties in Illinois, and Jasper and Newton counties in Indiana, were affected.

The watch had been scheduled to be in effect until midnight, but it was called off before 9 p.m.

Storms Monday evening may turn severe with damaging winds and hail.

Severe weather was seen Monday evening northwest of the Chicago area. A tornado warning has been issued for northwestern Winnebago County and northeastern Stephenson County near the Wisconsin state line until 8:15 p.m., and southeastern Green and southwestern Rock counties on the other side of it.

The tornado warning for Stephenson County was canceled early, but remained in effect in the other three Illinois and Wisconsin counties.
