Stone: Peavy's Third Start Will Be Most Important
CHICAGO (WSCR) In his second start since returning from experimental shoulder surgery, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jake Peavy was dominant, shutting out the Cleveland Indians over nine innings, while striking out eight.
"I think that he threw the ball exceptionally well," Steve Stone said on the Danny Mac Show. "What I said before he started his first start, was the start that I was concerned about was his third start. I though that just strictly on his competitiveness and the fact that he worked awfully hard to get back as quickly as he did, and knowing the type of pitcher that he was for a long time, I felt that adrenaline and excitement and everything else would carry him through the first two starts. He was better the first time out than his numbers looked. He was just unbelievable [Wednesday] night. I want to see just exactly what's going to happen the next time out."
In his first two starts this season, Peavy has a 2.40 earned run average, a 0.67 WHIP and a .185 opponents batting average in 15 innings pitched.
