Stone: Lillibridge Needs To Be Moved Around

CHICAGO (WSCR) Brent Lillibridge has lined up at four different positions this season. He's been one of the few pleasant surprises for the White Sox, sparking a sentiment from some to find him a permanent home at one spot in the field.

But that might not be the best way to utilize the 27-year old.

"Brent Lillibridge has been terrific," Steve Stone said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "And he's been terrific wherever Ozzie [Guillen] has put him, and I think there's the true value. There are a lot of people who say: 'Put him in one spot and leave him there.' Well, that's not what he does. His value to this team is: Give Carlos [Quentin] a day off, play him in right field. Give [Alex] Rios a day or two off, play him in center field. Give [Juan] Pierre a day or two off, play him in left field. Use him to pinch-run occasionally. Put him in late to pinch-hit. You can use him up to four and five times a week, in my estimation, and I think he'll be terrific.

Since the end of April, Lillibridge's batting average has dropped from in the .320-range, down into the .270s. The drop is more likely due to increased attention from advanced scouts, as Stone says, which comes with having more and more success at the plate.

"The batting is going to be, probably, in the .250s," Stone said. "That's fine, becuase like the other night, he helped win that ball game with a stolen base, he eventually scored on the error, he made the great catch in left field. He can effect your baseball team if he doesn't get a hit, becuase of his speed and defense. And you want him in there, I just don't think you want him in there at one certain position, every day."
